Request Watchers
Tag teammates on a request so they stay in the loop on decisions and notes — without being the assigned reviewer.
What are watchers?Growth+
A watcher is a teammate who is CC'd on a specific request. Watchers receive email notifications when:
Watchers cannot approve or reject the request — that's still the assigned reviewer's role. Watching just keeps you informed.
When to use watchers
High-stakes decisions
A finance manager wants to see when large refunds are approved or rejected — without being the reviewer on every one.
Cross-team visibility
Legal needs to know when a contract modification request is decided, even though the approval is handled by Operations.
Escalation context
An on-call engineer adds themselves as a watcher on a critical deployment request while the SRE team handles it.
Audit and compliance
A compliance officer watches a batch of high-risk requests to confirm they were all reviewed before execution.
Adding and removing watchers
Open any request in the Approval Inbox or History. In the request detail panel, find the Watchers row and click the + button to add a teammate. Click the × next to a watcher's name to remove them.
Who can manage watchers
Any workspace member with REVIEWER role or above can add or remove watchers on any request.
Who can be a watcher
Any accepted workspace member — OWNER, ADMIN, REVIEWER, or VIEWER. The watcher does not need an approver role.
Notification behaviour
Off-hours suppression
If your workspace has working hours enabled and a note or decision arrives outside those hours, watcher emails are suppressed unless the request priority is urgent.
Deduplication
If a watcher is also the assigned reviewer, they receive only one notification — not two. The system deduplicates the recipient list before sending.
No Slack notification
Watcher notifications are email-only. The Slack channel notification goes to the channel, not to individual watchers.
